Freshman year is when you get used to the whole idea of “I’m actually in high school!” And what fun it has been! There is so much more to do here than in junior high. And now as I look back, some of the more exciting moments this year were the winter formal and spirit weeks. Winter formal is probably the event that freshmen and sophomores look forward to. The excitement of searching for just the right dress, thumbing through magazines for just the right hairstyle, and, of course, the shoe shopping — I still have goose bumps. If my parents would have let me, I would have slept in my beautiful, pink formal gown. Oh, and the guys look pretty hot, too, all dressed in suits or tuxedos. Don’t get me wrong though, I still like guys in baggy jeans and Converse, too. Spirit weeks were also lots of fun. Each day had a theme, and as long as you followed the dress code, you could dress up to match the daily themes. It was a lot of fun. Probably the hardest part of being a freshman so far has been taking midterms. My mom has been riding me about preparing for finals, but I know as long as I stay caught up with my work and study, it will be pretty easy. (Somebody tell her that, please!) Next year, I will take the high school exit exam. I know some people are pretty freaked out about it, but I am not worried. There are study guides available and as long as I study and stay focused, I will do fine. What I like most about high school is that everything seems to be more fun. I am still learning in class, but it just seems “cooler” than it was in junior high. I love the extra freedoms given to me by my parents and the high school staff. I can hardly wait to see what next year brings.
