"Get on the Bus" is a church-based project to send more than 30 local youth to visit their mothers in the state prison system on May 12, the Friday before Mother's Day weekend.

To support this project, First Congregational Church is sponsoring a silent auction and brunch on Sunday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at the church.

Get on the Bus originated seven years ago in the Southern California prison ministry, and has swiftly grown to transporting children from 30 cities in California to reunite with their mothers in minimum security prisons such as Chowchilla.

Members of the community and businesses are invited to contribute to this project by writing checks to Get on the Bus and mailing them to the church (5 Real Road, 93309); making cash donations to sponsor a child; or donating items to the auction. All donations are tax deductible.

Stockdale and Bakersfield High School are also involved in fundraising for the project. For more information, call the church on weekdays at 327-1609.
