Girl Scouts-Joshua Tree Council has been serving  Kern County for 59 years. Each year, Joshua Tree Council serves thousands of girls and helps them strive to become courageous, confident and character-driven women of society.

While Girl Scouts has been involved in the Southwest community for many years, many people are unaware of the depth and variety of activities and programs that Girl Scouts are involved in.

Girl Scouts has created a youth reading program, “The Chronicles of Narnia Book Club.” Girls, boys and adults of all ages are invited to attend and enjoy the fun and games of the book club events. Currently the book club is reading “The Magicians Nephew,” and it’s not too late to join.

Girl Scouts offers a variety of summer programs to keep girls learning, growing and having fun. GS Summer Options is a series of day-camps offered Monday through Friday for girls 5 to 17 years old. Activities include crafts, games, dance classes, fitness fun, and many more events. You do not have to be a registered Girl Scout to be a part of the Summer Options program. Attend one event or attend them all, it is your choice.

Studio 2B is a program for high school girls. It is a modern Girl Scout program that is for girls, by girls. The group decides on topics that matter to them and participate in activities they are interested in.

Girls also have the opportunity to participate in a program called “Destinations.” In Destinations, girls chose a program that fits their interests, and have the opportunity to travel all over the country and to several foreign countries.

For more information about all the special programs Studio 2B has to offer, visit: www.studio2b.org

Five hundred girls in 54 elementary schools, community centers and homeless shelters are able to experience Girl Scouting through our after-school program. Special programs are set up across the county to offer Girl Scouting to girls who would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate. The program offers crafts, games, sports and other activities that are geared toward enriching the educational experience of girls while teaching them important life skills.

Joshua Tree Council participates in a national detention center program. Girl Scouts leaders are given clearance to enter juvenile hall and conduct the Girl Scouts program with girls detained in the centers. The program offers girls decision-making programs and other lifestyle programs that help girls have a fighting chance to make better decisions once they are released from juvenile hall.
