There is no way to name one favorite Temptations song. The group was so influential and productive over the span of decades. Formed in the early 60s they had as many hit records as the Beatles. 40 years with Motown records produced many lineup changes but the members that did it for me were Otis Williams (currently touring ), Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin.
But let's talk about their great songs. Any greatest hits would have to include, "I wish it would rain":
"Sunshine, blue skies, please go away/ My girl has found another and gone away/ With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom/ so day after day I stay locked up in my room/ I know to you it might sound strange/ But I wish it would rain"
Can it get any sadder than that? I don't think so. Then there is one of the most joyous songs of love ever produced: "My girl"
"I got sunshine on a cloudy day./ When it's cold outside, I've got the month of May/ I guess you'd say, what can make me feel this way/ My girl" Sweet!
Once, in the early 60s, I was going steady with a girl named Tammy. She even wore my ring around her neck. One day she decided to break up with me, I was crushed and heartbroken (See "I wish it would rain" lyrics above).
A few days later she changed her mind. We got back together and the world was all right again (See "My girl" lyrics above).
Tammy may not have always been there for me, but the Temptations were.
