Speaker for the September 20th meeting of the Writers of Kern will be Don Thompson, a local writer who will speak to us from his experience as a widely published poet.  A native of Bakersfield, Don attended Fresno State where he was awarded a graduate fellowship to the University of British Columbia.  His works have been published in various anthologies, magazines and journals as well as in books.    Don is witty, good-humored and generous with his ideas. "Poems," he says, "are written from the heart, not from a database.  And errors of fact, self-deception, wishful thinking are all part of the personal myth we call truth".
