Music filled the air Saturday, May 31st, as about 300 old and new friends took part in an open house, dedication, ribbon cutting and street festival at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission.
Open house gave the community a chance to see where the mission is, what the mission does and who the mission serves. The ribbon cutting and dedication was of new property donated to the mission to expand the services offered. The street festival offered a time of relaxation and enjoyment to all who attended. The dunking tank was a popular spot for the adults and the water slide seemed to be the favorite of the smaller ones, though I did see quite a few adults there when they were looking for ways to cool down from the heat.
Being the first year for the street festival, there was a good turn out. Food booths supplied hot dogs, nachos, funnel cakes, kettle corn, shaved ice , cold drinks and more. Other booths offered face painting, basket toss, bean bag toss, inner tube toss, number draw, hat booth, and a water gun shoot-out.
If you missed this year's festivities, we hope you will join us next May when we do it all over again.
