The first Pinewood Derby was held in 1953 by Cub Scout Pack 280C of Manhattan Beach, California. The cars are made from a block of pine and are propelled by gravity down a steep sloping track. Every year more than a million boys and parents team up to carve, decorate, weigh, adjust, fret over, and finally race a Pinewood Derby car.
Look for the Pinewood Derby at East Hills Mall again next year! For more information on Scouting in your area call the Southern Sierra Council at 661-325-9036.
