New skateboard committee to meet in January

A new skateboard committee has named itself Helping Skaters Help Themselves. They met at the Beale Memorial Library downtown on Dec. 6 in the Lake Room. T.J. Esposito made a presentation about some of the steps that the youth need to take to make a new skatepark in Southeast Bakersfield a reality.Following the presentation, the youth began work on an essential step: learning to speak about why they want a new skatepark and what they are willing to do to help build one.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Beale library, in the Lake room starting at 6 p.m. Meetings will be held regularly every month so the committee can build membership and organize. Anyone interested in helping to build a new skatepark in Bakersfield is invited to attend.
