Hello Southwest Voice readers!

I hope you are enjoying this week's edition of The Southwest Voice.

Here are just some of the stories you will find:

COVER: Student projects prove how much 'Stockdale Cares'

For students and teachers involved with the associated student body government at Stockdale High School in Southwest Bakersfield, the school year is a whirlwind of drives and community service projects benefiting the greater Bakersfield community.

SCHOOL NEWS: In tune with Civil War

“When Johnny comes marching home again” may not be stored in iPods carried by today’s youth, but it was on the minds of approximately 2,000 students throughout California who descended on Bakersfield’s Rabobank Convention Center on Oct. 17.

HAVING FAITH: New Beginning for Christ's Church of the Valley

On Oct. 28, the Christ’s Church of the Valley congregation put an end to a two-year search for their new senior pastor. By an overwhelmingly decisive vote Michael Foutz of Newbern, Va. was accepted by the congregation, which erupted in applause and cheers upon the announcement.

YOUTH SPORTS: Southwest athlete to represent Team USA in Quebec

Jimmy Zielsdorf from Southwest Bakersfield’s Stars Gymnastics Tumbling and Trampoline team is heading to Quebec. We are all very excited for him. He set his goal to be world champion last year and has worked very hard to get to this point. He has competed and qualified at several events this year and has reached his goal to be the representative of the USA at the World Age Group Championships in Quebec City, Quebec from Nov. 6 through 10. There are 32 countries competing and we are very proud that Jimmy will be a representative of Team USA.

PETS: Local herder competes at Cal Poly Pomona Herding Trial

Sheila placed first and second with scores of 89 and 90 out of 100 both days.
