The Bakersfield Voice

At the end of July, my boyfriend Daniel and I went to the SPCA to get a kitty. For someone who has grown up loving cats and always bringing strays home with me (my mother hated this), it was extremely difficult to pick just one cat.  All of those faces looking at you, purring, trying to get your affection — it breaks my heart. I’d take them all home if I could, but we decided before even going in there we were only taking one home.

Since I couldn’t pick just one (afraid my choice wouldn’t be good enough), Daniel took one look at this 3-month-old black and white tuxedo kitten and knew she should come home with us. You could hear her purring from a good distance, and as soon as we got near the cage she was rubbing all over it. That was all it took for us to give her a home.

Once we brought her home she was even better than we expected. Snickers, as we named her, is like our own cat-dog. In all the years I’ve had cats, I’ve never had one that does everything she does. She will fetch little balls and actually bring them back and wait for you to throw it again. She has a toy bear that she tackles and wanders the house with. She even waits at the garage door for us when we get home.

Snickers still purrs extremely loud — its annoying when she is in your face while you are trying to sleep, but we couldn’t have made a better choice. I know she is delighted that we gave her a happy home and we are very pleased to have such an awesome kitty.

I truly believe that if you plan to add a pet to your family that you should go to the SPCA. They have some of the best pets to offer families.
