What’s happening in the Southwest area and Bakersfield as a whole? On Aug. 18, Praise Chapel of Bakersfield, 4001 Hahn Ave., hosted the second annual Back-2-School Celebration. We served 150 needy kindergarten through 12th-grade students with school supplies, and backpacks were given for those in greatest need. Over 200 people stopped by and ate a free hog dog, chips, and a drink at Patriots Park. There were also many singers, musicians, a dancer and a rap group called REST who came to entertain and bring forth the love of God. Pastor Jeff also spoke on the importance of community and family and the need for God.
The goal was to make sure many children went to school happy, proud and ready to succeed for this coming school year. Pencils, paper, folders, crayons, a good backpack and other such items can make a big difference for a low-income or underprivileged child.
We were able to help local families who had no means to meet their kids’ school needs. Such families include parents who have been out of work, or who have had multiple surgeries, are homeless, foster families or disabled students.
About eight people gave their heart and life to Jesus and many others asked for prayer and received counseling in their lives on a personal, one-on-one level. I believe many families were encouraged and received a new perspective on life and the world around them.
Our purpose and vision has always been and will continue to be making a positive difference in the lives of the people in our community!  With the love of God, strive to reach out to the young and old, the hurt and abused, the lost and confused. Let them know there is hope for their lives, their families and their futures.
We would also like to thank the sponsors in our netted community of Bakersfield, who witnessed the need and are always willing to help make a difference in the community. Thank you, we could not do it with out you!
