Stockdale High School’s Health Occupations Students of America, or HOSA, is a professional student organization which further prepares medical academy students to enter health care professions.
This year Stockdale HOSA had 26 students who represented California at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. from June 20 to 25. Stockdale HOSA Bowl Team made up of Brad Brown, Byron Alexander, Clayton Martin, and Mandeep Kang took second place in the nation. We were defeated by last year’s No. 1 team from Texas. The event started out with 120 teams from 44 states and Puerto Rico.
Stockdale hasn’t finished this close to the No. 1 team in 10 years — it is the culmination of four years of studying medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, biology and HOSA facts.
Stockdale’s medical reading team of Joy Wang, Libing Wang and Meme Lunagrath earned a bronze medal. The top 10 all American status went to our bio-medical debate team of Prit Patel, Sumail Bhoghal and Amol Gupta. Extemporaneous health poster top 10 was Cecelia Lay.
In total there were over 5,700 students, advisors and chaperones from all over the country. We had a wonderful trip and were very pleased with the performance of our students and with how well prepared they were for competition and this experience.
