Project Linus Covers in Love

0 responses 0 comments Have you ever been somewhere where there is a child hurting and you wanted to do something, anything? Project Linus is 100% volunteer organization that lovingly provides new, handmade blankets to children in our local area. Nationally Project Linus has been in existence for 12 years. Our local chapter was started in January of 2006 & in just over 18 months we have delivered approximately 2300 blankets have been donated to children in crisis. Project Linus currently delivers approximately 180 blankets per month to individuals and organizations in the area. 

Once a month our community volunteer “blanketeers” get together to make blankets for Project Linus. Project Linus accepts blankets made with fleece, cotton fabric & flannel. We also accept crocheted & knitted afghans. All sizes are acceptable as we provide for children up to 18 years of age.

You have an opportunity to get involved. Although Project Linus collects blankets all year long for the month of September, Project Linus is collecting blankets for their “Covered in Love” campaign. Mark Miller of Sawyer Brown has recently recorded a CD for Project Linus entitled Covered in Love so Project Linus is looking to see how many children in Kern County they can “cover in love.”

On September 8, 2007 10a.m. to 3p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints you are invited to come join in the community Make A Blanket Day activities. This is a free event and there will be something for everyone to do no matter your skill level from beginner to expert. There will be demonstrations on fabric dying & crochet & knitting. You may bring your sewing machine & help sew blankets as well. Fabric & kits will be provided.

It also lists thank you letters from parents and children for the comfort they have received after receiving a blanket or afghan from Project Linus.
