Calling all Rebels: South High School is turning 50! Call it what you want — a birthday, an anniversary, a reunion for all classes or a celebration, but just come and enjoy the fun.
The big event is taking place on Sept. 29. It will all happen on the South High campus, 1101 Planz Road, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available through Valitix for $35 each. Don’t wait to purchase your tickets to this outstanding event as numbers are limited. Come join all your school friends, family and teachers for the biggest party South has ever thrown.
What’s going on? First of all, South High is getting a “face lift.” Work has already started on sprucing up the campus for the arrival of all the alumni. You will be able to tour the campus and reminisce with old friends.
As you enter the campus you will be presented with a commemorative bag with information and schedules of the day’s events. One of the main events of the day will be a tri-tip lunch (by Mossmans Catering) staged in a huge tent in the middle of the quad. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm., allowing you to stroll around, meet up with old friends and eat at your leisure.
When you get to the campus, you will notice smaller tents set up around the quad. As you pay more attention you will notice each tent represents a decade of Rebel history. We will have memorabilia from each decade and also offer you a spot to meet up with “old” classmates. (If you’d like to help with your tent or just have a picture to add, contact us!) Don’t miss stopping by the staff alumni tent to chat with your favorite teachers and administrators of South High, both past and present!
Another great event taking place on Sept. 29 is the homecoming game at the beautiful South High School Football Stadium (they don’t build ’em like that any more). Your event ticket will buy you admission to the game, or if you’d rather sit and chat that’s an option too. Just be aware, you might also miss the traditional march through halls by the Rebel Band and Rebelettes, not to mention the half time show. Not just any show, but one featuring past and present members. (Again get in touch with us to participate and for the practice schedule.)
There’s still more. Throughout the day we will be showcasing Rebel talent. Quality performances on stage by current students and some alumni will add a special touch to the day. We will also be playing popular music from each decade throughout the event. The memories will come flooding back! This is going to be fun!
In addition to all this fun, South High will also be unveiling its new Commemorative Plaza. The area north of the cafeteria along the walkway to the auditorium has been designated for this beautiful area of reflection.
You can be a part of this area of Rebel pride by purchasing an engraved brick. So far bricks have been purchased by individuals, families, teachers, businesses, administrators and staff. Bricks can be purchased online at: www.southhigh50th.org or at South High School.
So, have you your ticket yet? What are you waiting for? Don’t miss out on this day. It should be a real blast, groovy, rad, cool, sweet, the bomb –– or whatever!
See you there!
