As a player of pet sites like Neopets and Marapets, I always wonder:  What are pet sites doing to make sure kids are safe?  These sites are designed for children, I never know if sexual offenders are on them.

Children could always lie about their age on the internet but on these sites, there is really no need to since they are cartoon like and are for children.  If you are over 12 on pet sites you have access to mail and forums so that you can talk to other children who are playing the games.  Offenders could be monitoring these places looking for your children.

When and if children give out personal information thinking that they have met another child that is their age, these offenders could have a chance to strike and meet them in person.  If these offenders live near children who they know have accounts on these websites, they could pretend to be one of the kids neighborhood friends.

It is important for kids to remember to never give out personal information, even on these sites designed for children.  If kids are talking to their friends, they should already know that type of information about them.
