Calvary Chapel Westbrook held its seventh annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Friday, Feb. 9. Approximately 85 daddies brought their daughters, granddaughters, and daughters-in-law for a special evening packed with fellowship, prayer and fun!
The purpose of this annual event is to provide a unique time for daddies and daughters to spend quality time together. We recognize that time intentionally set aside for family does not happen as often as it should. We hope to help families slow down, and to create memories and traditions that are meaningful and special for daughters.
Every year, Senior Pastor Mike Osthimer prays with all the dads and daughters, reminding them of God’s love and reminding dads of the privileged role they play in the raising of their daughters.  For the second year in a row, “Greengo,” our green puppet friend who goes out into the world and shares the Gospel, made his appearance and taught the girls about forgiveness and what to do with a heart full of sin.
One dad shared that since December his 8-year-old daughter asked daily, “When are we going to the daddy-daughter dance?” Moms have shared that they are blessed to be involved by shopping with their daughters for “the dress.” Moms also help by sending cookies and working the refreshment tables.
Some dads take advantage of this evening to treat their daughters to a favorite restaurant, rent a fun car for the night, or they get an ice cream sundae together. For some high school-age daughters, it has been a tradition to attend this event since they were in elementary school. Imagine –– daughters looking forward to spending time with their dads!
Prizes were awarded to: oldest dad; oldest daughter; farthest traveled; youngest daughter; and most generations.
This year, there were many churches and community organizations holding  similar functions. I personally think it’s great! I’m for anything to enhance family relationships and strengthen the parent-child bond. In fact, coming in May watch for our mother-son bowling day.
