ABWA offers scholarships

The Central Valley Council of the American Business Women’s Association is funding four special scholarships through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund.
The fields of study to be awarded are nursing, liberal studies, business, criminal justice or teaching credential, and the scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $2,000 each for two students at Cal State Bakersfield and $1,000 each for students at Bakersfield College.
The guidelines are:
1. Scholarships will be a one-time issuance and are not automatically renewable.
2. Checks for approved candidates are issued to the educational institution for the recipient.
3. Funds are limited to tuition, books and fees.
4. Association members or individuals who are related to members of the association may apply.
Candidate eligibility requirements are women who:
• Are citizens of the United States of America and are residents of Kern County.
• Will be a college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in August 2007.
• Are attending or have been accepted at Cal State Bakersfield or Bakersfield College.
• Have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
Application deadline is March 30 and must be received by that date at the National Headquarters of the American Business Women’s Association to be considered.
