0 responses 0 comments My best friend Da' netria is a very strong girl because even though she's crippled she's just like a regular kid.
When it was little it was very hard for her. She was made fun of a lot and barely getting used to the way she walked.
"Yeah, it was a struggle," she said.
Day after day she was pushed and shoved and crowded in front of in line.
Then her life changed when she went to Van Horn School. Her first day people were a little kinder than most people. Still, some people were talking behind her back and when she found out she felt sad and hurt.
That day I saw her crying and I sat and talked to her. She felt a whole lot better.
As the weeks passed, I saw a change in her. Her personality started to show and she didn't care what anyone thought about her.
Then I received some bad news –– she was moving and had to go to another school.
"That's the worst," I thought, "I just lost a wonderful friend."
Well, it wasn't that long before I moved so I had to go to Stine. I ran a little late and everybody was staring at me when all of a sudden I saw Da' netria. She looked very happy to see me.
At recess she had me crackin' up. She should be a comedian.
Every day she called me and we would talk for hours.
One day she received a call that a family member passed away. She felt sad so I went in the room and told her about how I felt when someone passed away that I really cared about. I also told her how I got through it.
It was the last day of school and she had an OK day, but she said that she hoped that she and I would stay in touch.
We did and we've become unbreakable.
She said if she hadn't come to Van Horn she would still be the girl who was reminded every day that she was different.
That's why she is my role model, because she's strong and unique. She's my best friend in the whole wide world.
