Southwest Community Nursery School holds rummage sale

0 responses 0 comments This coming year, the Southwest Community Nursery School will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Founded in 1966 by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Click, the school was initially associated with The Church of the Brethren. The collaboration lasted only one year, and in 1967 the school became independent of affiliation with the church.
The school is a nonprofit, parent-participation cooperative that has been enriching the lives of local children for four decades.
Denise Ariey, the school’s director for the past 10 years, couldn’t imagine doing anything else! She loves working closely with parents and children. She feels blessed to be part of such a wonderful school.  Ariey has a way with children that is really amazing to witness. She truly speaks their “language,” and radiates a loving, nurturing energy that all of the children seem to thrive from.
At Southwest Community Nursery School, we consider ourselves a “family of families.” As a cooperative, there is no paid staff, so the school is maintained and run by parents of students. This allows parents to shape their children’s first learning experiences in a truly unique way! Parents attend monthly membership meetings to discuss and decide upon the upcoming month’s curriculum under the direction of  Ariey. They also plan exciting and educational field trips, fun crafts, and games.
No school would be complete without parties, and we have just finished planning for our annual Christmas party, “Pajamas, Pancakes, and Santa, of course.”  This one is always a huge hit with the kids!
Because it is a nonprofit organization, our school depends solely on fundraising efforts and donations. Every month we hold various fundraisers to help run the school, buy art supplies, and pay for field trips.
One of our biggest and most exciting fundraisers is our annual rummage sale! We invite you to come out and help support our school, and maybe even find a treasure or two! This year’s rummage sale will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, at 6 a.m.
