Anyone can learn to paint or draw. It just takes a little practice and the help of experienced artists.

The Bakersfield Museum of Art can help you tap your "inner artist" and fan your creativity with its series of art classes. Adult classes are offered year-round and members receive a 10 percent discount on enrollment fees.

The following classes are scheduled:

Principles of Design
Every Monday, November 6-December 11
6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This class focuses on the elements of art and the principles of design, essential subjects for any fine artist or graphic designer. Students learn how to refine and communicate their ideas through composition, color, text and texture. $200

Introduction to Comics
Every Tuesday, November 7-December 12
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
This class takes students through comic figure drawing, character development, page layout, and inking. $200

Fundamentals of Figure Drawing
Every Thursday from November 9 through December 14 
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
The fundamentals of figure drawing are taught, including gesture, proportion, figure construction, line quality and more. A perfect primer for Figure Drawing workshop or painting. $200

On-going,
Intermediate Figure Drawing Workshop
Every Wednesday
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
Designed for students that have already mastered the fundamentals, this class explores a new figure drawing subject each week. Previous subjects have included drawing people in public spaces, portraiture, hands, the clothed figure, drawing from memory, and more. Basic drawing experience required. This class is ongoing. Join whenever you like. $150 for four weeks
