I visited P.F. Chang’s restaurant Sept. 28 at 9 p.m.
P.F. Chang’s is a chain of restaurants that have been around since 1993 and have established themselves nationwide.
Due to the late hour, we were seated within minutes, but if you come at the regular dinner time you can expect a much longer wait.
Outside the restaurant was a larger-than-life stone horse which sets the mood for the restaurant.
When we first walked in three different people welcomed us.
The contemporary Asian interior was richly decorated with exotic woods and slate. The overall color scheme was in earth tones and implemented natural materials. The dining room resembled a great hall, with booths along the perimeter and tables in the center. Birds of paradise plants were used to add a splash of color, and replicas of ancient Chinese terra cotta soldiers stood against the back wall.  An ornate mural decorated one wall and added to the ambiance.
Once seated, our waitress explained the menu and helped us choose sauces to suit our individual tastes.
From a list of appetizers my companion and I chose to share the spare ribs. The ribs were very juicy,  full of flavor and not overcooked. The appetizer was $7.95 and served with moistened towels, which came in handy.
My companion had the Mongolian Beef sautéed with green onions and served with your choice of rice for $13.95. I enjoyed Sweet Honey Chicken with a choice of rice for the price of $10.95.
We decided to try their specialty drinks, one being The Asian Persuasion, a perfect blend of liqueurs. From the taste it was obvious that expensive alcohol was used. The wait staff was very accommodating, and when our appetizer arrived after the main course it was deducted from our bill.
Even though Bakersfield has its share of good Chinese restaurants, P.F. Chang’s offers an upscale Chinese dinning experience which shouldn’t be missed. I was very impressed by the professionalism at P.F. Chang’s. I am one to appreciate details, and they did not miss a beat.
It is one of the best I have visited, and I definitely plan to return soon.
