Tehachapi artist, Ron Mead, has been painting watercolor for 25 years.  In 1998, three of his watercolors were juried into the Festival of Art competition at the Bakersfield Museum of Art.  Ron is a devoted follower of the California Scene watercolor art movement which flourished in California from the 1920's to the 1950's.

A former aerospace engineer, Ron has always been interested in the theory, or principles of composition in art.  He believes for a painting to be good art it must not be merely decorative, like wallpaper.  It must have tension in it.  For example, a ship against the sea, or man against the wilderness...It must also have emotion.  Emotion is produced by color or brush strokes which reveal the soul of the artist.

An exhibition of watercolor paintings by Ron is on view at Russo's Book Store at the Marketplace in southwest Bakersfield from Sep. 1 through Sep. 30.  The exhibit is sponsored by the Bakersfield Art Association which has an art gallery at the East Hills Mall.
