Boy Scouts of America Meridian District congratulates three outstanding young men on their completion of the highest rank in Boy Scouting, the Eagle Scout award.
Joel Black and Victor Lopez each appeared before the District Board of Review on Aug. 1.
Upon returning from a 54-mile backpack trek at New Mexico's Philmont Scout Ranch, Jonathan Black appeared before the District Board of Review on Aug. 17.
Upon completion of the review process, each was awarded the rank of Eagle.
Among the many requirements to earn the Eagle rank, a scout must plan, organize and supervise to completion a project to benefit the community.
Joel Black, Troop 218, completed his project on the Bakersfield Bike Path between Beach Park and Chester Avenue, which included reinstalling missing signs, painting over graffiti on bridge undercrossings and general cleanup of the area.
Victor Lopez, Crew 442, completed his project for Windwolves Wildlife Preserve, constructing and installing benches for visitors and planting native plants.
Jonathan Black, Troop 218, also completed his project on the Bakersfield Bike Path between Stockdale Highway and Enos Lane, relocating mile markers as designated by GPS survey and also installing permanent markers adjacent to the trail.
Only 4 percent of all boys who join Scouting achieve the Eagle Rank.
Congratulations Joel, Victor and Jonathan!!
