The Kern Senior Collaborative is presenting the 2nd Annual Spirituality and Aging Forum on Sept. 7 at Hodel’s on Knudsen Drive. Seniors, their families and their caregivers are invited to attend this inspiring half-day event that includes breakfast, special speakers, workshops and much more!
Spirituality is not defined by one particular faith group but instead by one’s meaningful approach to life. Tickets need to be purchased before the event.
The theme, “His Banner Over Us is Love, God Really Wants to Help You,” will be spotlighted by special speaker, Don Clark, former TV newscaster and current director of development at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission. Clark was a popular and inspiring speaker at this event last year.
Presenting special music and encouraging audience participation will be Scott and Amberly Neese of Christ Church of the Valley. Amberly spoke and presented special music last year. She will be joined this year by her husband, Scott. It is a special treat to be musically inspired by this dedicated couple.
There will be an opportunity to attend two of four workshops on 1) grief, 2) travel, 3) exercise and 4) spirituality. Attendees will learn about four places to exercise and four opportunities for travel. A panel of four people will discuss how to cope with life by spiritual means, and Care Ministries Pastor Tim Hardy will lead a workshop titled “Good Grief.” Workshop topics were chosen from a list provided by last year’s attendees.
Blood pressure and glucose testing will be available for attendees at 7 a.m. Breakfast begins at 7:30, followed by special speaker Don Clark at 8 a.m. The workshops begin at 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Door prize winners will be announced followed by a musical extravaganza by Scott and Amberly Neese.
Tickets for this event are $10 and can be purchased from Gary Bashor at 330-7392 or by calling the Kern Senior Collaborative at 835-7625. You are encouraged to leave a message if there isn’t someone available when you call. Your call will be returned promptly. Corporate sponsors for this event are Rosewood Retirement Community, Home Instead Senior Care, 88.3 FM KAXL radio and National Health Services.
This is a once-a-year event. Attendees will come away inspired and encouraged! Only 250 seats are available so call soon!
