Come explore the Sacred Path of the Medicine Wheel in this transformational class facilitated by Conan and Irene. Discover tools and techniques for Sacred Self Empowerment using the Medicine Wheel as a map to enhance your Journey. Class will include drumming and journeying in this Teaching Circle, designed to connect and align you more fully with Spirit, Self and the Heartbeat of Mother Earth. Auditions: Sunday, May 25, 4-6pm; Saturday, May 31, 11am-1pm
Performances: August 8 - 23, 2008
Rehearsals: 7-10pm, Sunday - Thursday beginning July 13

The Plot: After retrieving the legendary golden fleece, Jason brings his wife Medea to settle in Corinth. There Jason falls in love with the local princess, whose status in the city will bring Jason financial security. He marries her without telling Medea. Medea takes revenge by killing the new bride and her father, the King of Corinth. Medea then purposely stabs her children to death in order to deprive Jason of all he loved (as well as heirs that
would carry on his name). She escapes to Athens with the bodies. The chorus of Corinthian women is left contemplating the will of Zeus in Medea's actions.
MEDEA has withstood the test of time to become one of the great tragedies of classical Greece.

CHARACTERS
Medea: (CAST) Barbarian, sorceress, woman of passion and rage. Clever, powerful, and ruthless, fiercely proud; a cunning and cold manipulator
Jason: Leader of the Argonauts, an opportunistic and unscrupulous man, full of self-deception and repugnant smugness.
Creon: King of Corinth. Suspicious, paranoid.
Aegeus: King of Athens. Friend of Medea. Kindly and trusting ruler.
Nurse: Servant to Medea, loyal to Medea. She is an outside commentator on the events of the play. As a slave, she is a canny but powerless observer.
Tutor: Tutor to Medea's children. Like the nurse, he comments on the behavior of his masters, although he has a different perspective on events.
Messenger: brings the news of the deaths of Creon and the Corinthian princess.
Chorus of Corinthian Women: The women of Corinth. Medea enlists their loyalty, extracting a vow of silence. They watch the horrific events unfold, but do not interfere. Though they condemn Medea at times, on the whole they seem to be more enthralled than disgusted by her. Like Medea, they are subject to the injustices that befall women; there is a part of them that seems to live vicariously through Medea's terrible revenge.

Memorial Day Concert Festival

Enjoy your Memorial Day evening the right way: Come to a FREE Outreach concert sponsored by The Journey, a service put on by Calvary Chapel Westbrook's youth department. The night will include performances from Nationally known Christian Rock band Remedy Drive, Bakersfield's own Lost Ocean, and The Sam Ortega Band from Frasier Park. This 4 hour event will include free giveaways, opportunities to meet and greet the bands, appearences by KDUV FM radio DJs, tons of merchandise, barbecue items and drinks for only $1.00, and a Gospel Presentation by Pastor David Wells. The Sam Ortega Band and Lost Ocean will perform in the Main Sanctuary, and Remedy Drive will perform at 8pm on our Outdoor Stage! “CATCH THE READING BUG!”

Discover the amazing world of insects this summer by joining the “Catch the Reading Bug!” Summer Reading Program @ your Kern County Library Bookmobile from June 2 – July 26.

The Bookmobile will be in your area

EVERY WEDNESDAY

5:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Rosedale Shopping Center/Northwest Promenade

The Bookmobile will offer all of its Summer Reading Club members the opportunity to get a prize out of the “Catch the Reading Bug” Reading Treasure Chest every time they visit the bookmobile from June 2 –July 26. ALSO, all members who read at least 10 books on their own or have them read to them will receive a FREE paperback book, donated by the Friends of the Kern County Library, upon return of their official reading record signed by a parent or guardian to the Bookmobile.

Swim School Grand Opening

Come and join us for Bakersfield Swim Club's Swim School Grand Opening. We are located at 3311 Allen Road, just north of Rosedale Highway on Allen. The Grand Opening will be from 4:00-6:00 pm on May 29, 2008. Highlights include a ribbon cutting by the Chamber of Commerce with our own Mayor Harvey Hall, meet and greet Olympian Gabe Woodward, fun activites, giveaways sign ups and tours.

Grand Opening Bakersfield Swim Club Learn to Swim School

Bakersfield Swim Club will be hosting a Grand Opening for their Learn to Swim School on May 29, 2008 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The facility will be open for tours and to learn more about the lesson programming. Harvey Hall and The Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce will be cutting the ribbon. Come and meet 2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist Gabe Woodward. There will be fun, food, raffles and prizes. The address is 3311 Allen Road. This is at the corner of Allen and Meacham.

Is it help? Who are these people? They seem so familiar. You hear voices and names. McDreamy, is it? McSteamy? Izzy? What’s an "Izzy"? It's all so unclear - so confusing. But where are you? The fog lifts. You recognize this place. There's a name, a sign. It's becoming clearer... something like Seaside, Seashells... something. No, now you see it… SEATTLE GRACE! Yes, it could be a dream or it could be real - but make no mistake YOU ARE THERE!
