Parent Night Out at American has been known to be the most fun your kids will ever have on a Friday or Saturday night in December (for the least amount of money, too). Activities include gymnastics, group games, tumbling, trampoline, crafts and a lot more. The Monkey Bar Cafe will be open to purchase snacks, but it is best to have dinner beforehand. How to Create and Use a Vision Board

In this workshop, you will learn how to create a Vision Board to aid you in achieving your Goals. All Materials will be included: Large Boards, Plenty of Images and Magazines, Markers, Pencils, Glue, and more! We will learn how visualization can aid you in realizing your goals and make your dreams happen FASTER! We will be practicing visualization for you to use in the future. We will set a specific Goal and find out how new ways of thinking will attract to you the right circumstances that will lead you to your personal success.

Rosedale Racers Youth Track Team Junior Olympic try-outs

ATTENTION YOUNG TRACK ATHLETES-JUNIOR OLYMPIC SIGN UPS

As you know, the school season is both short and almost over. Traditionally, the schools do not support the USATF junior olympic program. The responsibility is usually given to the Club programs. Rosedale Racers is Bakersfields premier youth track development team.

We are a volunteer, non-profit organizations that specializes in developing track and cross-country runners. We currently have about 25 kids in our program. Our program provides both a caring and serious atmosphere. Our training programs are very serious. Each young athlete is evaluated personally through a variety of off-standard track distances to see which program is best for them and for their greatest chance of success. In example your child may be a distance runner, a middle distance runner, a sprinter or a cross between two.

So, parents, if you have a young star or a runner with a lot of heart and potential come out and join the fun.

The try-outs and sign ups will be held Saturday, May 24 and 31 at 9:00, lasting till noon. Please come to the west side of Almondale Park in Rosedale near the corner of Verdugo and Riena. The cost of the event is 8.00 per athlete. Other costs can be discussed for those seriously interested.

Jazz Coffeehouse featuring NYC Improvisational Trio

The CSU Bakersfield Jazz program will present the final Jazz Coffeehouse concert of the academic year on Saturday, May 24, 20078 at 7:30 PM. This event will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room inside the CSUB Student Union. Tickets should be obtained at the door on the night of the event. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $6 for any student with an ID card and seniors (60+).

The featured band on the program is HANS BLIX an improvisational trio from New York. This trio of composer/performers has been getting great press since the release of their first album, “What’s the Highest Number You Can Think Of”? The group consists of Dan Venne, guitar; Brian Scherman, keyboard/saxophone; and James Windsor-Wells, drums/percussion.

HANS BLIX is the result of freely improvised sessions above a tire shop in Brooklyn, NY. The music belongs to either several genres or none at all. The music’s improvisatory nature draws it to jazz, but the band’s sound may fit better with electronica or post-rock. Regardless, this set will be worth checking out!

In addition to our guest artist, a student combo from Bakersfield College – The Modern Jazz Trio – will present a set of standards. The Bakersfield Jazz Workshop Youth Orchestra will perform a set of big band music and the Charles Mingus Project will present a handful of compositions by seminal bassist/composer/activist Charles Mingus.

Cross SAXtion, featuring Mat Willis, saxes; Nathan Yeasley, drums and Scott Roberts, bass will perform a set of jazz standards inspired by alto saxophonist Paul Desmond including Take Ten, Bossa Antiqua and Out of Nowhere. Vocalist Jaz Wiggett, will present a set of standards with the members of Cross SAXtion. Selections will include – Skylark.

The Jazz Coffeehouse Concert Series is a five-concert series where CSUB students and community members perform live jazz in all of its many guises. The CSUB Jazz Coffeehouse Concert Series is produced and directed by Jim Scully, guitarist, composer and member of the CSUB Music Faculty.

Mr. Scully is the director of the small jazz ensembles at CSUB as well as a lecturer in Music Theory, Theory Skills, Jazz Appreciation, Music Technology and Chamber Music. On any given night at a CSUB Jazz Coffeehouse Concert the listener could be treated to 1950’s Hard-Bop, 1970’s Fusion, 1980’s Post-Bop and the 1990’s New Creative Music. AAU and USATF Junior Olympic Track sign-ups

The Rosedale Racers Youth Running Development team will be hosting a AAU and USATF Junior Olympic Track Sign up and Try-out on Saturday May 24 and 31.

The event will take place at Almondale Park in Rosedale at 9:00 until roughly noon. The event on the 24th is FREE. The event on 31st is $10-15 depending on if you'd like your young athlete to attend the kick-off Pizza Party. In the second event kid will be divided by type of athlete, gender and age division. They will run a series of test intervals. The accumlative times will be calculated, and ribbons will be awarded 1st-8th.

Financial obligations and registration for the team should be discussed with the Coach. There are numerous fund-raiser available to cut down on costs. So, come out and join the summer fun and meet new friends. For more information, please contact Coach Ryan @ 747-1603, thank you.

The Plot: After retrieving the legendary golden fleece, Jason brings his wife Medea to settle in Corinth. There Jason falls in love with the local princess, whose status in the city will bring Jason financial security. He marries her without telling Medea. Medea takes revenge by killing the new bride and her father, the King of Corinth. Medea then purposely stabs her children to death in order to deprive Jason of all he loved (as well as heirs that
would carry on his name). She escapes to Athens with the bodies. The chorus of Corinthian women is left contemplating the will of Zeus in Medea's actions.
MEDEA has withstood the test of time to become one of the great tragedies of classical Greece.

CHARACTERS
Medea: (CAST) Barbarian, sorceress, woman of passion and rage. Clever, powerful, and ruthless, fiercely proud; a cunning and cold manipulator
Jason: Leader of the Argonauts, an opportunistic and unscrupulous man, full of self-deception and repugnant smugness.
Creon: King of Corinth. Suspicious, paranoid.
Aegeus: King of Athens. Friend of Medea. Kindly and trusting ruler.
Nurse: Servant to Medea, loyal to Medea. She is an outside commentator on the events of the play. As a slave, she is a canny but powerless observer.
Tutor: Tutor to Medea's children. Like the nurse, he comments on the behavior of his masters, although he has a different perspective on events.
Messenger: brings the news of the deaths of Creon and the Corinthian princess.
Chorus of Corinthian Women: The women of Corinth. Medea enlists their loyalty, extracting a vow of silence. They watch the horrific events unfold, but do not interfere. Though they condemn Medea at times, on the whole they seem to be more enthralled than disgusted by her. Like Medea, they are subject to the injustices that befall women; there is a part of them that seems to live vicariously through Medea's terrible revenge.

Memorial Day Concert Festival

Enjoy your Memorial Day evening the right way: Come to a FREE Outreach concert sponsored by The Journey, a service put on by Calvary Chapel Westbrook's youth department. The night will include performances from Nationally known Christian Rock band Remedy Drive, Bakersfield's own Lost Ocean, and The Sam Ortega Band from Frasier Park. This 4 hour event will include free giveaways, opportunities to meet and greet the bands, appearences by KDUV FM radio DJs, tons of merchandise, barbecue items and drinks for only $1.00, and a Gospel Presentation by Pastor David Wells. The Sam Ortega Band and Lost Ocean will perform in the Main Sanctuary, and Remedy Drive will perform at 8pm on our Outdoor Stage! ALSO, all members who read at least 10 books on their own or have them read to them will receive a FREE paperback book, donated by the Friends of the Kern County Library, upon return of their official reading record signed by a parent or guardian to the Bookmobile.
