Thinking About Homeschooling

Have you ever thought about homeschooling your children, but you didn't know how to start? We're here to help! Thinking About Homeschooling is a Christian ministry that provides information and support to families who are thinking about homeschooling their children. Meetings run May-September, the second Tuesday of every month. Our first meeting will be on the topic, "Making the decision to homeschool."

St. Demiana's Coptic Church Festival on May 17th

Saint Demiana Coptic Orthodox Church invites you to its first annual Festival, Saturday, May 17^th, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Church on 9200 White Lane; on the corner of Park View Drive in Southwest Bakersfield. The Church Festival will offer games for children, food, movies, crafts, books, CDs, icons, photo opportunity and a church tour. Admission is free. For more information call 428-4402.

BEECH PARK ART SHOW

Come see the largest art show in Kern County on May 17th at Beech Park.

Over 30 artists with paintings, ceramics, jewelry and pottery. Tents, stalls and all original art!!!

Some of the artists show their works all the way from Cambria to Scottsdale and one has even had her painting in London, England.

If you think there is only great art on the coast you might be surprised to find the local art is just as good.

There will be western art, abstract art, impressionistic art, and all sorts of media, from watercolors, oil paintings, pastels, photography, ceramics and wood turned items and more.

Come and have fun on Staurday, May 17th under the shade of the trees at Beech Park.

Donation Drive for Southwest Residents!

THE SALVATION ARMY TO HOLD DONATION DRIVE

AT ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) of Bakersfield will be hosting a Donation Drive with St. John’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 17.

The Donation Drive will allow members of the community the convenience of donating items without having to schedule a pick-up. The Salvation Army truck will be present in the main parking lot in front of the campus at 4500 Buena Vista Road, on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Donations of usable goods—such as clothing, shoes, accessories, appliances, furniture, linens, toys, household items and other goods—will be collected. Proceeds acquired from the Thrift Store operations support the organization’s Adult Rehabilitation Center, which provides support and counseling at no cost to those with alcohol and drug addictions in the community.

If you are unable to attend the donation drive but would like to contribute, you may donate at The Salvation Army Thrift Stores at 19^th and Union or Ming and Stine, or schedule a free pick-up by calling 1-800-SA-TRUCK or going online to www.satruck.org.
