Darla L. Bramlette, a classroom kindergarten teacher from Panama Buena Vista Union School District in Bakersfield, is excited to begin work as a newly-elected member of the National Education Association Board of Directors.
“My classroom is constantly busy and buzzing with eager children ready to learn. Kindergarten is an exciting place to be, and I believe that great public schools are a right for every child. I strive to make great public schools a reality,” said Bramlette.
Bramlette, whose three-year term began on Sept. 1, recently participated in her first meeting of the 188-member NEA Board, one of the top decision-making bodies for the 3.2 million-member professional and labor organization.
Bramlette teaches at Amy B. Seibert Elementary School, and has taught for the past 14 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies and a master’s in education.
“Darla brings a wealth of practical experience to the association’s mission that every child has the basic right to attend and succeed in a great public school,” says NEA president Reg Weaver. “She is committed to the fight for quality public education and is a tremendous asset to our board.”
The NEA Board is comprised of elementary and secondary teachers, education support professionals, higher education faculty and staff, school administrators, retired educators and students studying to become teachers.

Springtime is track time at Seibert Elementary!
The annual school track meet was held April 3 and 4 with fourth- through sixth-graders participating. The top two places go on to the Panama Buena Vista Union School District meet at CSUB.
A fun time was had by all, despite the rain.
Two traditions held at the meet consisted of music being played and the male and female teacher relays.
The students enjoyed listening to music while running and groovin’ to the chicken dance and other favorites.
The teacher relay is always a favorite part for all students and teachers at Seibert.
The winning relay teams from the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade classes run against the team of four teachers.
The three girls’ teams take on the women staff, who do their best not to take last, while the three boys’ teams run against the male teachers, who are almost impossible to beat!

Camp KEEP for Amy B. Seibert students was great. The students appreciated learning about science in a whole new environment.

Content becomes real to children at Camp KEEP. They learn about different ecosystems and habitats.

For many of these students, it is the first time that they have actully seen the ocean.

Students shown in this picture are examining life in the tidepools at Montana De Oro. Sea urchins, sea anemonies, star fish and hermit crabs are among the few items they see.

They smell the ocean, touch the animals, and hear the crashing of the waves behind them.

Their surroundings are a reminder of how important it is to care for the environment.
