DARLA LOVETT ART AT DAGNY'S

Darla Lovett is the featured artist at Dagny’s Coffee Co., 1600 20^th Street, for the month of October. The modern/contemporary paintings on display will include works in acrylic and mono print. Lovett is a multi-media artist who paints, makes jewelry, and sculpts. She loves to create beautiful and colorful pieces of art and has been artistic all her life. Tina Niswonger, art on display Sep. 25 - Oct. 29 at Bakersfield Art Association Gallery of Art, East Hills Mall, 3000 Mall View Road. Gallery opens 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Reception for the artist will be held on October 12, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

ART CLASSES AT GALLERY OF ART

Several professional artists are offering art classes in various media in September at the Bakersfield Art Association's Gallery of Art in the East Hills Mall. Artists scheduled are Carol Bradshaw, Bonnie Kempner, and Emily Mbong. For class times, fees, and other details call 872-2806.

PAUL BUXMAN OIL PAINTING WORKSHOP

The Bakersfield Art Association is happy to announce that noted valley artist Paul Buxman will be conducting a one-day outdoor oil painting workshop on Saturday, September 29 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The cost of the class is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Since Mr. Buxman is a popular artist and teacher, his workshops fill up quickly. Anyone interested in taking his class needs to call 872-2806 as soon as possible to sign up.

TONI LOTT GUEST SPEAKER

Toni Lott, Framing Presentation

Toni Lott will be the special guest of the Bakersfield’s Art Association’s Gallery of Art at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8. She is the owner of Affordable Framing and Home Décor and will discuss various framing situations and how to best handle them. Toni has been a guest speaker for the BAA before and is always well received. There is no charge and the public is invited. The Gallery of Art is located at the East Hills Mall near the southeast entrance.

PAMELA LIASCOS AT RUSSO'S BOOKS

The Bakersfield Art Association is pleased to announce the featured artist for the month of September at Russo’s Books in The Marketplace is Pamela Liascos. She works with mixed media (watercolor pencils, pastels, acrylic, collage) and paints a variety of subjects. Included in her display at Russo’s are some of her favorites which include: “Stained Glass Windows”, “Firefighters’ Memoriam”, and “Chili Peppers”. Pamela paints in both a realistic and abstract manner and has been involved in many local art competitions.

Drawing and Painting Classes

Artist Norma Neil will be conducting drawing, painting, and composition classes for the serious beginner in six-class sessions beginning August 6. Classes will meet Monday and Thursday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Lodge at The Four Seasons. Will explore the use of pastels, watercolors, and possibly water miscible oils. Joseph Roseberry is a busy young man. In addition to preparing to leave for college in the fall, he has a one-man show coming up for the month of August at Dagny’s Coffee Co. Joseph developed an interest in photography while attending Bakersfield College. He particularly enjoys photographing the effects of light as well as urban night life. He will be attending California College of the Arts in Oakland on a scholarship and was also the recipient of a scholarship from the Bakersfield Art Association.

LILA MARTIN AT RUSSO'S

The Bakersfield Art Association is pleased to announce the featured artist for the month of August at Russo’s Books in The Marketplace is Lila Martin. After 30 years of teaching and school administration, Lila is now a full-time artist. She served two years as President of the Bakersfield Art Association and has twice been juried into a prestigious national show in Morro Bay. Her displayed work will include cityscapes and landscapes. A reception for the artist will be held at Russo’s at 1:00 p.m. on August 18.

ART SHOW AT STARS THEATRE

Bakersfield Art Association has paintings on display at the Stars Theatre & Restaurant on 1931 Chester Avenue in July and through August 13. The artists featured are: Maia Cummins, Patti Doolittle, Darla Lovett, Lila Martin, Nancy Merrick, Margaret Stephens, and Charlotte White.

The Bakersfield Art Association is pleased to announce the featured artist for the month of July at Russo’s Books in The Marketplace is Don Trainor. After retiring from his business career, Don began painting his favorite subjects — classic cars. Don’s work is a unique presentation of an age-old art form — reverse painting on glass. Each painting is one-of-a-kind with no prints or duplicates available.Don’s art is owned and enjoyed by many private collectors. His paintings of classic cars will be on display at Russo’s with a special emphasize on “Woodies”.
