Approximately 270 students in grades four to 12 from dozens of Kern County schools are scheduled to compete in the 24th annual Kern County History Day competition from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 10 at Ridgeview High School, 8501 Stine Road. Performances are open to the public all day. Exhibits, posters and historical papers will be open for public viewing in the gym at 2:30 p.m.  An awards ceremony will be held in the gym at 3:30 p.m. History Day encourages students to explore a historical subject related to a yearly theme. This year’s theme is “Triumph and Tragedy in History.” For months, students have conducted research and prepared entries. Through this process, they learn to be historical detectives and sharpen their skills as writers, artists, and performers.
