The sidewalks of The Marketplace will come alive with color and light this fall as the Bakersfield Museum of Art presents the Eighth Annual Via Arte Italian Street Painting Festival Oct. 14 and 15.
This exciting and colorful festival provides a weekend of family fun and entertainment as the 16h century Italian tradition of street painting transforms The Marketplace pavement into vibrant collages of life-sized original and recreated works of art, all crafted from chalk.
Via Arte will feature local artists, children, students and visiting artists who create the artwork as crowds stroll by, viewing the artistic process.
The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 14 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 15, although visitors may stop by any time to observe the works in progress. Admission and parking are free.
